Mini Kokedama Workshop - Lunar New Year Taster
As part of Willoughby City Council’s vibrant and community-driven Lunar New Year Festival, running from 12–28 February, we are honored to be one of the featured activities within the Lunar Wellness Hub.
This Mini Kokedama Workshop is a festival-exclusive taster session, created to bring a calm and mindful plant-making experience into the heart of the celebrations. Set within the Lunar Wellness Hub — a thoughtfully curated space that blends nature, mindfulness and creativity — the workshop invites participants to slow down, reconnect and enjoy a gentle moment of making.
You’ll be guided through the Japanese art of kokedama (moss ball planting) and create a small living piece to take home, designed as a simple and welcoming introduction to this beautiful practice.
What you’ll experience:
• All materials provided
Carefully prepared plants, moss, soil and natural materials
• Step-by-step guidance
Gentle, hands-on instruction throughout the session
• Create your own kokedama to take home
A living piece made with your own hands, ready to be cared for at home.
While inspired by the season of love and renewal, this workshop is for everyone (beginner-friendly) — whether you’re sharing the moment with someone special or enjoying a quiet act of self-care.
Note:
This mini workshop is a festival-style introduction and a gesture of community appreciation. It’s shorter than our full version, which offers a deeper, more relaxing, and immersive kokedama-making experience.
Plants shown in images are for reference only. Actual plant selection may very depending on availability on the day.
Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled start time. There will be council staff on site (The Concourse) to assist and guide participants to the correct workshop area.
📍 Location: The Concourse, Chatswood
⏱ Duration: 60 minutes
📆 Session 1: Saturday 4:30-5:30PM 21 February
📆 Session 2: Sunday 10:30-11:30AM 22 February
